Common Name:
Northern Blue-tongued Skink
Scientific Name:
Tiliqua scincoides intermedia
Origin:
Northern Australia
Size:
12-15 inches
Age:
>20 years
Active:
diurnal
Habitat:
terrestrial, range of habitats from coastal heath, forests. and woodlands, to montane forests
Captive Care:
40 gal aquarium (minimum), paper towel, newsprint, mulch, or Carefresh as substrate (keep dry), shelter, basking light or under tank heat, screen cover (loose), shallow water dish
Lighting:
full spectrum fluorescent & incandescent for heat
Foods:
in wild:   insects, snails, carrion, & wildflowers, native fruits & berries
in captivity:   crickets (calcium/vitamin dusted), mealworms, fruits, blossoms, & other vegetation
Temperament:
mellow when housed individually, fight savagely if housed together
Notes:
live-bearing; short limbs; babies prone to metabolic bone disease (Ca deficiency); very aggressive to conspecifics
